3DBROAD STREET STATION
MODULE
UPDATED 03-20-06
THE ORIGINAL BROAD STREET STATION WAS DEMOLISHED IN 1952-53  TO MAKE WAY FOR THE PENN CENTER COMPLEX.
THIS STATION WAS ABOUT 30% LARGER THAN READING TERMINAL WITH 16 TRACKS AND OCCUPIED SIX BLOCKS. I DECIDED TO REVERSE TIME ON MY LAYOUT AND BRING IT INTO THE FUTURE

BELOW ARE CONCEPTUAL RENDERING OF THE NEW BROAD STREET STATION MODULE TO THE MASTER LAYOUT
ALSO THERE ARE NEW PHOTOS OF BENCHWORK AND MOCK UP OF THE BROAD STREET STATION MODULE
TRAIN SHED IS THE TRIX DAMMTOR STATION KIT. THE TWO HEAD HOUSES ( THE ORIGINAL AND THE FRANK FURNESS ADDITION) WILL BE TOTALLY SCRATCH BUILT.

If  I had More Space I would make this shed span 16 tracks like the prototype.
I also took the liberty to shorten the head house North to South to fit the smaller track Layout.
Bird's Eye view. Brroad street station like most head house stations had an interior court yard set up to allow light into the interior offices and down to the Station Annex through skylights

ABOVE: Highline approach to Broad Street Station. Of course the prototype highline doesnt go to Broad street station but because of lack of space I can't build the suburban platforms at 30th street station Correctly. But this 30th street Station is oriented in such a way that if I wanted to build the suburban platforms off the high line I could. Its a question still up in the air. With the space available. 4 tracks could fit with two platforms. The draw back is I couldnt  park a Long frieght on the viaduct.  The funny thing is earlier schemes had an ELcoming through this tangle of tracks Just like the prototype back in the 40s. One of the Reasons why the Prototype High Line is So High is to clear the el on Market Street
Color Selection is hard because of the majority of photos of Broad Street Station are in Black and white.  From Colored Post cards the colors apear to be Terra cotta brick on the upper Office portions and Grey stone at the base.  In the Future I May remove the Middle section of the shed and fill it in with the Dammtor extension bays to Give it a more American Shed Appearance.  The middle section would make a good opera house or some thing with a Classical Function.

I still have to add side Smoke Roof Extractors for the Steam Engines used during that period .  Im not going to glue the roof down until the catenary is installed in the shed
I CANT WAIT TO BUILD THAT HEAD HOUSE
I love double Slip switches
